Magnesium in action

Magnesium is a weird substance with atomic number 12. It is an alkaline earth metal that has magnetic properties. Several attempts to synthesize magnesium from many alchemical laboratories have failed due to it refusing to not come with impurities.

Properties[edit | edit source]

Being an alkaline earth metal, magnesium creates quite a lot of rocks you can throw into the water. Unlike calcium's rocks, which are boring and useless, magnesium's rocks are magnetic and can attract metals like gold and plutonium. Also, unlike the elements below it, magnesium does not violently react with water.

History[edit | edit source]

Magnesium metal was first discovered by an irrelevant person named Sir Humphrey Davy in 1808 after extracting it from epsom salt. It was a pain to do; magnesium sulfate is very strong without the water, after all. It's named after the fact that it and all of its salts are, in fact, magnets. However, when naming the element, the namer misheard "magnetium" as "magnesium" and put in the latter. Many petitions to change magnesium's name back to what is was always meant to be have failed because people have gotten used to it.

Magnesium nitride reaction[edit | edit source]

A picture of magnesium nitride

A very infamous reaction in the Nottingham Forest, the magnesium nitride reaction is a reaction involving magnesium and air. The reason that the Forest hates this reaction is because a specific someone keeps failing the reaction due to the wrong setup. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to properly do the reaction:

  1. Put some magnesium powder in a flipped-over beaker. I will not clarify how.
  2. Use super-saiyan powers to ignite the powder. It should start burning.
  3. Wait 2-3 millenia.
  4. WHOOSH! You've made a magnesium nitride volcano!
  5. Once the volcano goes dormant, open the beaker up and extract your golden magnesium nitride.
  6. Use this golden power to impress your friends.

Critical acclaim[edit | edit source]

Unlike most chemical elements and other wacky, zany substances, magnesium has had no controversy so far. This is because magnesium does not instantly combust upon contact with water, being safe near fluorine and chlorine, and, of course, magnets. Magnets are the main selling point of magnesium, as there is no other element with such properies.
